In 1999, in cooperation with the Community, we constructed
a 250m2 Early Childhood Learning Center that has a capacity
for 50 infants and children under the age of four. The
Center has three classrooms, two large washrooms (boys
and girls both with shower facilities), a kitchen where
snacks are prepared, an expansive nap room with a cot
for each child, an infant room with cribs for each baby,
and an immense playground.
In 2002, together with the Community,
we constructed a 650m2 Primary School with a capacity
for 100 students. The School has four classrooms, two
large washrooms (boys and girls both with shower facilities),
a kitchen where breakfast, lunch, and snacks are prepared,
an all-purpose room for school events, and playing fields.
In Spring 2004, we will begin
construction of a Community Center and Library. The
Foundation and donors will provide the materials and
the Center will be built in a “minga” (a
Quichua word that means “working together”)
where the entire community will work together for several
weeks until the project is completed. The Community
Center will be used for community events and will serve
as the base of operations for the Technical and Vocational
Education Institute.
