There is significant evidence showing that actions taken
by parents and society during childhood have powerful
and long-lasting effects on both the progress of individual
children and the wider progress of communities and nations.
The Sierraflor Primary School shares
the same philosophy as the Early Childhood Learning
Center and teaches a bilingual curriculum that includes
the following subjects:
• English language (used
50% of the time)
• Spanish language (used 50% of the time)
• Mathematics
• Science
• Computer
• Physical education
• Art and drama
• Music and dance
The Primary School operates from
7 a.m. until 4 p.m. and, as with the Early Childhood
Learning Center, it stresses routines that reinforce
values and good health and hygiene habits. When children
arrive at school, they shower, eat breakfast, wash their
plates and silverware, and brush their teeth. A similar
routine, minus the showers, is followed during and after
lunch.
The School’s two experienced
Teachers and Assistant believe that if their students
receive the best start in life they will grow up healthy
and develop lifelong learning capacities that will help
them and their families and communities to rise out
of poverty.
